Final Project- Critique of the original web site.

Name:Los Angeles Wedding Photography and Videography service.

Web address: http://www.ourweddingphotography.com/

Why do you want to redesign this website?

I found it very confusing and I don’t think they thought about content and structure at all when designing this site. There is no structure over the website at all, no use of grid system. The pages doesn’t even look the same. The content is floating all over. The navigation is a totally mess and some of the pages don’t even have a navigation bar. The information on the page is confusing. I really think they missed out what’s important when designing a web site.

Even though I think they used a good white balance some more color would have been nice. The typography wasn’t that good, they used different font-family, different color and font-size throughout all the pages.

Who is the target audience?

Couples who are getting married and need a photographer.

What did you learn from the competitive analysis and how did it impact your re-design?

The competitive analysis opened by my eyes and helped me re-designing this page. Instead of focusing of what content I wanted to have on the site I learned what’s important for the target audience. Even though I might have missed some aspects with my re-design I learned that a site like this ( photography site) I should put a lot of emphasis on the images and what feeling the site are sending out, and that the navigation should be clear so they user easily can get information they want.

The Principles of Beautiful Web Design

What is “Grid Theory” and why is it important to web design?

The Grid Theory is about proportion and composition, and how we can use the golden ration (1.62) to divide the length of a line to give us logical guidelines and producing appealing layouts. We want our layout to be appealing to our audience, we want to ”catch” them from the moment they enter our site.

In addition to “balance,” what are the other design principles important also to Web design?

In addition to Balance, there is Unity and Emphasis. Unity refers to the way the different elements of a composition interact with one another by proximity and repetition. Emphasis is how we can draw attention to a particular element and make it a focal point.

What are the “Bread and Butter Layouts” in web design?

The ”Bread and Butter Layouts” is the left-, right- and three-column navigation layout. It’s the most common layouts and most web designer uses these guidelines to build their layout.

A blog is the perfect way to communicate without saying a single word.

Trying something new is exciting.

I’ve never used tumblr before but I do have a blog for my friends and family back in Sweden. Living far away from home, a blog is the perfect way to share my life over here with all my loved ones at home. Sometimes it’s just words, or maybe just a picture, and other times it’s a song that communicates my state of mind.
